Look-ups

Over about 35 years of research I have attempted to accumulate every scrap of information that I can find on the Vincent Family. While this has included all of the United States, I have concentrated work to this point on the state of New York and the areas where they migrated during the settling of the country. I am slowly getting the information organized into publications and databases. I will gladly share and exchange this information with others interested in particular families.

Land Records

Research in the state of New York is particularly challenging. Towns and states did not keep vital records prior to the late 1800's. A relatively low percentage of people left wills or had probate records filed. One of the more important remaining sources of genealogical information is the recorded land deeds and mortgages on file at the county clerk offices. I have searched and catalogued the Grantee and Grantor indexes for ALL of the Counties of New York State at least through 1850 and for most counties to about 1870-1900. For the earliest deeds in each county, I have transcribed a brief abstract that includes those involved in the transaction, dates, location, neighbors, and witnesses. There are about 3000 deeds recorded in the database. On a number of occasions, when the land was involved in probate action, family information is disclosed in the deed. In the earliest deeds, there is often a past residence indicated to verify the previous residence. In addition to the New York records, I have begun searching other areas for deed information and have added Bradford County, Pennsylvania, Morrow County, Ohio, and Marion County, Ohio. I will search this database for particular individuals or locations. Please supply as much information with sources as you can about the individuals so that I can give the broadest search. I hope to publish this database. If you would like to contribute other land records to the effort, it will be greatly appreciated and acknowledged.

Census Records

I have researched numerous census records. In many cases, this research has gone beyond the published indexes to include the microfilm records. I have two publications of census information (See Publications Available) and numerous other records. I have a index of all Vincent's recorded in the Soundex records for the 1880 census for the States of: Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Minnesota, Michigan, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Vermont, Wisconsin. The 1880 Soundex includes all households having a child of 10 years or younger. My father and I have indexed  the Soundex for all Vincent's in the 1900 Census; check out the page describing the book. If you would like I will check for an individual or two. Please supply as much information with sources as you can about the individuals so that I can give the broadest search.

Accumulated Information

Many Vincent Family records are found in old County History Books, newspapers, military records, and vital records. I will search this database for particular individuals or locations. Please supply as much information with sources as you can about the individuals so that I can give the broadest search.
